Frontier Family Spotlight: Lynn Bradshaw

Each month, we’ll be featuring a Frontier Title Company Family Member, one from the San Antonio area and one from the Houston area.

LYNNThis month, we’re excited to introduce you to Lynn Bradshaw, Director of Business Development for San Antonio. Lynn joined Frontier Title Company three years ago after spending 12 years as a Marketing Consultant for Reaching Neighbors, which provides direct mail marketing services to real estate agents.

We asked Lynn a few questions about herself and her experience working at Frontier Title Company.

 

 

What do you think sets Frontier Title Company apart? 

Outstanding Customer Service which stems from a very cohesive office. Our culture is that every person cares deeply about what they do.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The relationships.  The relationships that I get to make is immensely gratifying. I’ve been very blessed to get to work with agents in San Antonio for over 16 years. It is a great feeling to know that you have helped grow their business.

What are three of your defining traits?  

Integrity, Optimism, and an Outgoing Personality

What is your personal philosophy?

Every storm runs out of rain. Get over it because there is sun coming. Don’t wallow in self-pity….move on!

How do you define success?

To find and fully live my purpose in life, and to leave an enduring legacy of having made a difference in the world.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

Love spending time with my best friend and husband of 25 years traveling, discovering great food and wine. We are loving the empty nest but look forward to a fuller wallet after college.

3 Painless Ways to Ask For Testimonials (And A Few To Avoid!)

 

Testimonials play an important part in building your credibility among followers and prospective clients. Some clients may send an email or letter full of praise without being asked, and some need a little encouragement. Here are some tips on seeking out testimonials without the discomfort!

What To Do
  1. End your experience or transaction with a survey. You can make one on your own or use a third-party service like Google Forms or Survey Monkey to facilitate your request. This puts the emphasis on the whole experience rather than solely on your skills and personality, but still achieves your goal.
  2. Use what they’ve already said. You may find a line or two in your email correspondence or text messages that would be perfect to feature as a testimonial. But make sure you reach out and request your client’s permission to use their words.
  3. Ask with a compliment. When reaching out for a testimonial, let the client know what led you to them. Try “I wish all my clients were as great to work with as you have been – would you consider writing a testimonial on our experience together?” or “Your opinion means the world to me. Can I send you a form to fill out for my testimonials page?”

 

Of course, it’s important to respect your client’s time and schedule when you approach them with a request. At all costs, avoid:

What Not To Do
  1. Last minute requests. Asking for help at the last minute disregards their own needs and priorities.
  2. Making them commit on the spot. Ask casually or via email to avoid discomfort in case your perception of the transaction doesn’t match your client’s. Give them time and space to consider your request.
  3. Waiting until you need a testimonial. Ask at the end of a transaction, when your client’s experience is freshest in their mind.
  4. Writing a statement for your client. If they don’t have time to write a testimonial, they simply don’t have time. Don’t put words in their mouth or add the pressure of speaking on their behalf.

 

Most importantly, don’t miss out on the benefits provided by testimonials because you’re afraid it will be awkward or uncomfortable. Use the above methods and your experience should be pain free!

Networking Secrets for Introverts

 

Being an introvert in a sales-driven industry can be intimidating, but armed with the right tools, even the most soft-spoken and reserved person can make an impact.

Be Prepared

The good news is, as an introvert, you’re probably in the minority. It’s likely that you’ll be surrounded by others who enjoy talking, but don’t let yourself get lost in the crowd! Before attending an event, consider the types of people you’ll meet and come up with a stock of questions. If you know you’ll be meeting people in an industry you don’t understand well, ask a friend in that industry to share some key points with you, or do some research online so you’ll feel comfortable contributing to the conversation and asking questions.

 

Interview

Most people love nothing more than talking about themselves. By treating each encounter like an interview, you’ll get them talking. Be sure to avoid close-ended questions. Instead of, “What do you do for a living?” try “How do you spend most of your time?” This opens a door for passionate discussion of hobbies and interests.

 

Follow Cues

If you pay attention, you’ll notice that people usually give hints as to where they’d like the conversation to go. Use their clues as a guide. If they mention they spent time at the lake last weekend, ask which lake, how often they go, and what activities they like to do at the lake. If they speak about moving their family to an area with better schools, ask about their children and what they like to study or what exactly appeals to them about the schools they’d like to be closer to.

 

Shine the Spotlight on Others

When talking to two or more people, use the opportunity to highlight the talents of those around you. Tell Speaker A something you’ve just learned about Speaker B. Or ask one to share a story they’ve told you with the others. Better yet, find common ground between your two acquaintances and get them talking.

 

Rate the Likelihood of Connecting

Dorie Clark of Harvard Business Review writes, “Every networking event should be subjected to a cost-benefit analysis: if you weren’t here, what would you be doing, instead?” If the risk of making a connection seems low, is there something else you could be doing with your time to help grow your business in another way. Be careful and be honest with yourself – it’s easy to make excuses when networking events aren’t your forte!

 

Schedule Your Own Events

If you’re uncomfortable in large crowds and noisy events, but feel at ease at smaller gatherings, create an environment that works for you! Create a dinner party “interest group” or a monthly “marketing breakfast” with colleagues and make networking work for you.

San Antonio Office Ranked As One Of The Best Places To Work

On July 14, the San Antonio Business Journal hosted its annual Best Places to Work Award Celebration – and we’re not surprised to be among the top-ranked companies in the small employer category this year.

More than 500 people — representing 61 small, medium, large and very large employers — attended the event. Companies which had placed in the list of best workplaces in San Antonio were announced at the end of May this year, with official rankings announced at the celebration. We are thrilled to announce that Frontier Title Company San Antonio placed 11th in its category!

Attending the celebration to receive the award on behalf of the San Antonio office were Karen Shaffer, Leslie Work, Doug Watson, and Lynn Bradshaw. Congratulations to our San Antonio team – and to all of our fellow winners! Fourth of July Safety Tips for Home and Family

Gearing up for a fun Fourth of July? While fireworks are exciting, be sure to keep your home and family safe with the following tips:

Check Your Coverage!

Basic home insurance covers fire, but if the fire starts as a result of fireworks set off by your family, you may not be covered if fireworks are illegal in your area. Check your coverage – and your city laws. Fireworks are illegal in the city of San Antonio, but legal in Bexar County, so make sure you are in an unincorporated part of the county before setting them off.

Firework Safety

  • Never give fireworks to small children, and always follow the instructions on the packaging.
  • Keep a supply of water close by as a precaution.
  • Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection.
  • Light only one firework at a time and never attempt to relight “a dud.”
  • Never throw or point a firework toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials.

While Independence Day is a fun time for many of us, there are members of our community who have difficulty this time of year, specifically Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can be triggered by the sound of fireworks exploding. Through an initiative by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, signs may appear on lawns in your neighborhood asking “Please be courteous with fireworks”. These signs indicate that the household includes a Veteran with PTSD – be on the lookout and keep our soldiers in mind as you celebrate. Advanced warning can help a great deal, so consider informing your neighbors if you’ll be setting off fireworks.

Pets

Animals handle loud noises differently, and to some of our furry friends, the Fourth of July can be terrifying! Leave your pets at home if you’re attending a party, and leave them inside if you’re celebrating at home. Make sure pets have proper identification in case they run, and never use fireworks around your pets.

San Antonio is America’s Most Overvalued Housing Market

San Antonio’s rival with Austin continues as both cities tied for first place in Forbes’ list of America’s Overvalued Housing Markets. Phoenix, Las Vegas, and San Francisco rounded out the Top 5. While the news might make homeowners a little nervous, the low rates and booming economy should keep the buyers coming.

As companies continue to bring business to the Alamo City, employees in need of housing keep the real estate market strong. Both Austin and San Antonio bounced back quickly from the recession.

Forbes’ list “compares home prices in the 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas against those MSAs’ economic fundamentals, including unemployment, income, population and mortgage rates. When home price growth outpaces the rest of the local economy, housing is deemed overvalued,” writes Kim Slowey of Forbes.com.

Texas is Being Hailed an Economic Miracle

In a story published by RealtyTimes.com, Jacob Dymacek calls Texas an economic miracle. Even in the midst of a troubled international market, Texas continues to thrive.

Best-Cities.org agrees. In their analysis of the best performing cities across the nation in 2015, according to job growth and sustainability, Texas had 6 of the Top 50 cities on the list of Best Performing Large Cities and 7 of the Top 50 cities on the list of Best Performing Small Cities. Austin, Dallas-Plano-Irving, San Antonio-New Braunfels, Houston, El Paso, Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Fort Worth-Arlington, Odessa, Midland, San Angelo, Victoria, College Station, Longview, and Tyler all made the cut.

Dymacek writes, “According to experts, livestock and agriculture production, oil, natural gas and modern technologies are the main areas, in which Texas prospers so much. Whereas agriculture, oil and natural gas have been its life line for many years, the new and main focus is to attract investors and hi-tech companies. It just shows how well can Texas government adjust to the current market.”

Of course, those who already live in Texas have noticed the current trends in business and real estate – the Texas market seems to be having its moment in the sun.
